I think we can all agree that Facebook changes more often than most small business owners and entrepreneurs care to see happen. But there is one thing for sure. There are a few standard Facebook Marketing standards that believe it or not many people still miss.
… And better yet, they are simple and quick fixes that you can implement right away!
Below are illustrated explanations of 5 Facebook Marketing tips you may have missed. Okay, I confess. One tip is a newly added feature to Facebook; but worth mentioning nonetheless.
Turning on Facebook Notifications Settings
Hopefully this is a no-brainer, but having your Facebook notification settings enabled can be a very effective tool to continue to build and engage with your followers. Of course, if your business grows to EPIC proportions, this may be something you’d consider disabling — quite frankly it would be too much to take on. However, for most of us that is not the case and getting messages and notifications on a regular basis is completely manageable.
To activate, simple HOVER over the ‘Liked’ button, scroll down to ‘Get Notifications’ and click to enable if not done so already.
Linking Your Facebook Business Page to Your Personal Profile
I come from the thought process that you can’t separate business and personal — well mostly. For most of us, business and personal blend together and it’s a challenge to keep them completely separate for those that want to do so.
So I say why fight it? Just embrace that it’s ALL a part of you. That being said, there’s nothing wrong with letting people from your personal life know what you’re up to in your business life. If anything it’s a good thing!
And once again it’s super simple to add. Under your Profile page, click on the edit icon under the ‘About‘ section.
Then click on the ‘Edit‘ icon under ‘Work and Education.’ In the box titled ‘Where have you worked?‘ start typing in the name of your Facebook Page. Once it pops up, just click on it and you’re done!
Participating in Facebook Fan Page Wheels
There’s a growing popularity of Facebook Business Page owners opening up their page for others to advertise/promote their own Facebook Pages. I call this Facebook Fan Page Wheels. You may have heard them as ‘Fan Page Fridays,’ ‘Tagging Tuesdays,’ and such. This is a great way to get more likes on your page and at the same time promote it.
Here’s the easy-peasy way of participating that’s not going to take you hours on end each time. After you’ve tagged your page and begin the process of liking other pages, simply HOVER over the page owners’ tagged link and you’ll see a box pop up. From here you can immediately Like the page and click on ‘Message’ to let them know you have liked their page.
I recommend you use a pre-written script to do this. But be sure to change the name to address it to the person directly and a blurb letting them know how you found them.
For example,
Hi Lisa,
I found your page on the [Insert name of Facebook Fan Page Wheel Event]. Just liked it. I look forward to your updates! Here’s my page if you can to stop by and say hi — [Insert link to page here].
Warmest regards,
Michele
Adding Your Name to Your Facebook Business Page
Maybe I’m nuts but it boggles me how many entrepreneurs and small business owners (ESPECIALLY service-based professionals) do not include their name anywhere on their Facebook Business Page! Even worse, you go to their About page on their website and there’s no mention of their name!
But there is a simple solution to this as you may have already predicted. There are three options:
- Add it to the ‘About’ section of your Facebook Business Page
- Add it within the URL of your page name
- Sign off on your updates with your name
Upload Relevant Images to Your Updates
This is actually the new feature from facebook. In the past you were at the mercy of whatever image showed up when you added a link to your updates. Now you can upload your own image. Woohoo! This allows you to add a relevant image to your updates when there isn’t one available … a long over-due feature I feel.
So this …
Becomes this …
