Clik here to view.We all lead busy lives right? Who has time to come up with fresh content on a regular basis, take care of your clients, and deal with the daily operations of your business? Unless you have a whole team behind you of course. But for most us, especially service-based professionals, that is usually not the case.
So we are often left to rely on creative ways to share our expertise without letting the process become overwhelming that it takes us from our central focus and goal … and that is usually to get more clients!
Repurposing content is a great solution to this problem. This simply means using content that has already been created and reusing it in other platforms and in various formats.
Repurposing content will save you time and headaches that come along with having to create new content on a regular basis. – Click to Tweet!
Without further ado, here are various strategies to leveraging and repurposing your content AND a basic plan on how to best share it.
Turn Your Blog Articles into eNewsletters (or vice versa)
How you choose to share your content is completely up to you … you make the rules. Some business owners who utilize both blogging and email marketing often times struggle with coming up with content for both! This can be a pain in the you-know-what. Especially if time is an issue.
A solution it so turn your blog posts into e-newsletters (or vice versa). You can simply do this by adding a short snippet of the blog post in your e-newsletter with a link directing your subscribers back to your blog. You get the added bonus of sharing content with your subscribers as well as the increased traffic on your blog.
Some bloggers such as Jon Morrow who recently wrote an article, Why You Shouldn’t Create a Newsletter (and What to Do Instead), feel newsletters have become obsolete and are unnecessary. I don’t share his views entirely although I do think sharing your blog post on your newsletter is a good strategy. However he does make a great argument! Interesting read for sure.
Turn eBooks into Blog Posts (or vice versa)
I have no doubt that many of us have had the idea of creating an eBook at some point in time in our business. Maybe you created it to give it away as a free offer to subscribers. Or possibly you created an eBook for sale. Whatever the case, you can now take that eBook and break it down into bite-sized sections and share it as multiple blog posts.
Conversely you can take a series of blog posts and create an eBook for it as well. As long as the topics are related, you can organize it in any way you like. Then you take that eBook and leverage it even further by putting it on eBook submmission sites such as http://www.ebookdirectory.com and http://www.free-ebooks.net/.
Turn Old Content into Videos
This is going to take a bit more work and creativity sometimes, but can have great results. I’ve taken blog posts and created video tutorials with them which allowed me to now leverage the power of sites such as YouTube.com to expand the reach of my content. This can also bring you the added benefit of SEO if you are taking the time to optimize your videos in the process.
Turn Your Written Content into Audio Content
This is another effective strategy I’ve used in the past and it’s extremely simple to do! You can do one of two things here. You can take an old blog post and voice record it using a software such as Audacity and then use the created mp3 in your podcast. Woohoo!
Or you can take a relatively current blog post or any other form of content, record it and post that recording on podcasting syndication sites such as iTunes or Blog Talk Radio.
Embed Past Live Workshops, Webinars, & Teleseminars onto Your Website
If you don’t plan to use this content to sell or as bonus offer for a current product or program, this is great way to repurpose content. This method has the added benefit of generating tons of leads for your business. What better way to jack up the know, like, and trust factor than freely showcasing your best stuff with your site visitors?
Let’s Talk Strategy!
There’s a method to the madness of how to best repurpose your content. From my experience I feel the best way to do this is to utilize the Drip Method.
Simply put, this means you take your content, convert it into multiple forms of media to share, and slowly “drip” the content over a short period of time.
For example, maybe you start with a blog post. Two weeks later you take this blog post and create a podcast out of it. Two weeks after that you create a video tutorial from that blog post. Two weeks later … well you get the point.
You are basically slowly dripping your content over time. This have various benefits. First it allows you to use the same content and share it over many platforms. Those who do not follow you on your blog, may follow you on your podcast. Or maybe they prefer video, so taking that blog post and converting it into video increases your exposure.
Another often missed benefit of the Drip Method is that you are now optimizing that content for search engines. Using the same content in various formats increases your chance that it will produce good results when people are searching for your type of content. Just make sure to optimize your content with searchable keywords! Image may be NSFW.
